The last year or so, we’ve been going through a home transformation. A virtual room by room redecorating plan because after 12 years of living in this house, it was time for a little makeover. I’m fortunate, at this point in my life, not to have to do the actual labor, just the design and supervision. Two points that I do very well.
- It started, after much coercing, with new granite counter tops in the kitchen, which was followed by wallpaper removal and paint (a soft buttery yellow), new art, lighting and decor, even new dishes.
- Then came the main floor bath.. again with the wallpaper removal, paint (a caramel color), new lighting, fixtures and art. I also had an old mirror and the vanity cabinet painted gloss black. The color scheme there is caramel, black with red accents. Tres chic!
- Next the office…. same color as the kitchen, and we added a new L-shaped desk with hutch.
- The upstairs guest bath was changed from a dark and moody fishing and hunting theme to a soft green with light Asian accents to make a relaxing Zen inspired bath.
- The exterior wasn’t left out in this facelift…. a good power washing, painting of the porches and trim and new craftsman style lighting fixtures.
- Then major additions…. new wood sliders to the patio, new service door in the garage, new front door and new French doors in the dining room. The front door and French doors are my favorites because they have art glass in them reminiscent of Frank Lloyd Wright design. They are gorgeous!
- Currently being done is the lower level bathroom and I have some artsy finishes in mind for that.
- In a week or so, the pool gets it’s makeover with new tile, a new handrail to the hot tub, and a pool cleaning and paint job.
- And in the near future are the two-story foyer and stairway to receive new paint and lighting. Color yet to be determined, but thinking on the coffee au lait side of brown.
- And the master bedroom which will get new skylight, plastering and paint. I’ve had my new bed linens and lamps for months, and have been procrastinating on paint choice. The master bath is part of this job, with a coordinating look.
Wow… writing this all down makes it seem like we’re doing so much.. and maybe we are, but we will be living in this house for the rest of our lives and what better way to invest in our future here. (photos to come)
