So many people don’t believe in it… or rather their husbands or significant others are too cheap to admit to it, and some go as far as calling this day a Hallmark holiday, but looking back at the history of Valentine’s Day, it outdates Hallmark by centuries. Go ahead.. Google it! We love Valentine’s Day and all it represents… and why not spend an extra day celebrating those we love, whether a spouse, family member or friend. Why not tell someone that you appreciate them, that you love them and why not for all the world to see… be proud of that love. On Ravelry, the knitting board I read, one of the forums was holding a *sweetheart contest* . The person that had the best story for meeting their spouse won a prize… roses, candy and of course yarn (well it is a knitting board). So I entered the story how DH and I met….. and I won.  Here’s our story…..

“My parents and my DH’s aunt who were friends had been trying for several years to “introduce” us. Finally after numerous attempts, they succeeded, but neither I nor my DH knew about it because if we did neither of us would have agreed. It was all arranged, we were to meet at a church picnic (nice, safe grounds, I think) with both of us being the unsuspecting fools. I wasn’t told until I was already there and DH and his family were approaching our tables. I was polite, but totally po’d at my parents for doing this because I was already seeing someone and we were at the talking stage about our future. We met and immediately I disliked him… he was geeky and so not my type. Now since I’m a relatively nice person, I agreed to show him the city (Detroit) the next day because he had driven in from across state just for this picnic and had nothing else to do. So the next day I took him to the Detroit Institute of Arts… my hangout at this point in my life being an artist and all, and it was sheer torture. He would stop and read EVERYTHING about EVERY painting we passed. It took forever to get through and I was so glad when he took me back to my apartment.I said “good night” and closed the door. He came right back, knocked and said, “I just wanted to let you know, that I’m going to marry you one day”. My words to him were short and sweet,…… “f@#& off”.6 months later we were engaged, on Christmas Eve, when he asked my father for my hand right before midnight mass. He still says that afternoon at the picnic as he walking toward me he said, “Thanks God, there’s my wife”  That was 28 years ago. ”

Oh, I love your story. My husband and I had a couple of meetings but the one that really “took” was on a gay bar during fiesta, San Antonio’s 10 day crazy party.
